Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a chronic condition that affects red blood cells. Staying on track with meds is key but when issues arise and a hospital visit is necessary, patients need extra help. We wanted to help prevent crisis events but also better prepare them for ER visits.

The Challenge

Hard to track

People with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) endure chronic pain due to misshapen red blood cells. They face a heightened risk of serious complications like infections, strokes and organ damage.

Today, there aren’t many digital tools to help SCD patients with tracking treatments or medical data, this creates information gaps for doctors.

The Goal

Simple digital tracker

Create an app to help SCD patients easily track key data points and access personal information which can be also be easily shared with their care team.

Results & lessons learned

We launched SCD Warrior for iOS and Android and its been slowly gaining traction - it's one of the only SCD focused apps available and since the disease is rare, there won't be a large pool of user data that we can use to learn from.

1. Engagement is key, experimenting and testing with new ways to engage is critical in moving towards having an impact.

2, Our flow for onboarding had an extremely impressive completion rate, attributional to the progressive disclosure (step by step) approach.
